Eurovision Song Contest May 16th!

Eurovision Song Contest began in 1956. With the exception of 1996, Germany has participated in every Eurovision Song Contest since its beginning in 1956. No other country has been represented as often. Despite a high participation record, Germany has only won one contest, in 1982. Germany, along with the United Kingdom, France and Spain, nis one of the "Big Four" countries that are automatically qualified to the final, regardless of the placing. This is due to being the largest financial contributors to the contest. The Eurovision Song Contest semi-final is broadcast on NDR Fernsehen and the final is broadcast on Das Erste, the flagship channel of ARD.

GAPP Student Exchange
Matches Meeting

Tremper and Bradford families hosting German exchange students in October 2009 will meet to make student-to-student matches.
Each year we improve the exchange, and this time around, our German counterparts have sent along biography-posters. We can already get to know their interests, and hopefully, more informed matches will follow.
It is very important to us that the exchange be the most amazing experience of your child’s career.
Please consider hosting!

Where? Tremper, room 208
When? Thursday, May 28th,
at 6pm

Wurstfest 5/14

Tremper’s German Program will be hosting its 3rd Annual Wurstfest. We just can’t get enough bratwurst, oom-pah-pah music and dirndls in October!
We are in need of parent volunteers for setup (10:00 a.m.-11:15 a.m.), sales (11:00 a.m.—1:30 p.m.) and cleanup (1:30-finish). Please email Frau Orth if you can help out!

Congratulations!

I have never, ever been so proud in my entire career as I am of my students today. Tremper has never placed in the top 5 at German Day, and this year we won 2nd! We've always competed just for the fun of it. But this year was different. We fielded two AMAZING skits. During practices, I never once had to remind the students to learn their lines or bring in props or costumes. Everyone knew where their props were and took responsibility and pride in their work. I'm so thrilled that we were recognized for our efforts. We also had two musical performances, one solo "Du bist die Ruh'" by Sarah J. and the birthday song "Viel Glück und Viel Segen", sung in a round by my German 101's. The competition is supposed to start at Level 2 German, but I like to take my 101's to get their feet wet. They did a great job!Three German 202/302 students even spelled their way to first place! Very impressive, since spelling is often the competition where schools fall farthest in standing.Students will also perform and receive certificates at our banquet on May 29th.

5th Annual German Awards Banquet

Join us on Friday, May 29th at 6 p.m. in Tremper’s Cafeteria for the celebration of our achievements in German. There will be entertainment for all, so bring the whole family and a dish to pass.
